Brief Introduction
This two week course will inform you – from a different perspective – about the factors that keep older people healthy and participating in society. In this multidisciplinary course on healthy aging. We focus on a better understanding of the aging process, the prevention of functional decline and preservation of autonomy. Furthermore, We have different visits and let you experience getting older. Prior to the summer school, you will be given the assignment to conduct a life review with an elderly person (65+) and will present this during the course.
The increase in longevity of the population is one of the major achievements of the twentieth-first century. This rapid demographic transition poses huge challenges to many countries in diverse areas. This two-week course will inform you – from a different perspective – about the factors that keep older people healthy and participating in society. In this multidisciplinary course on healthy aging, we focus on a better understanding of the aging process (biological, psychological and social), the prevention of functional decline and preservation of autonomy. Furthermore, we have different visits e.g. to a Senior Friendly Hospital and an innovative nursing home. We will let you experience getting older.
Course Objective:
The focus is a better understanding of the aging process, the prevention of functional decline and preservation of autonomy.
Study load:
Four full weeks of daily classes, workshops and excursions in Amsterdam (144 contact hours, 53 hours preparation, self-study and final assignment). Prior to the summer school, you will be given an assignment to conduct a life review with an elderly person (65+).
